Treatment of metalworking fluids in metallurgical and tube roll engineering

Objective

The metalworking fluids (cutting coolants) are steady state, kinetically stable emulsions used in intensive cutting, squirting, rolling, die forging, drilling processes et al.

The spent cutting emulsion is a consumable to be replaced.

Due to high stability of spent cutting coolant emulsions, their discharge to general purpose treatment facilities of the companies deteriorates wastewater treatment since highly emulsified petroleum products are not captured by settlement ponds and are passed through effluent filters.

In fact, the metalworking fluids are not decomposed naturally, therefore their discharge to ponds and treatment facilities preliminary mitigation is not permissible.

The technological scheme for the lubricating coolant treatment provides its destabilization in the acidification reactor by lowering the pH value by an acid solution. Further, the destabilized emulsion is processed in the separation reactor by solutions of the coagulant Biomiсrogel® BMG-P2, coagulant and flocculant based on polyacrylamide. As a result of the chemical dosing and mixing, oil products are bound and poorly soluble particles are formed. After the settling, the formed sludge goes to a belt filter for filtering, and the treated waste water is discharged by gravity.
